Irreversible Disintegration seems to be a composite of every grind/death metal cliche in the book. As far as brutal death metal goes, this album is very typical and generic. Sure,it’s heavy as fuck, but definitely not a game changer. Indecipherable pig squeal vocals? Check. Half-assed chugs and breakdowns? Check. Trigger-happy drums? Check. Even some of the better tracks, notably Mechanical Maggots, drag on longer than they should. Although there were some moments of genuine brutality, the redundant riffs and monotonous vocals were just too much boredom for me to endure.
Hell, even the album art looks like something I’ve seen a billion times before. Those unfamiliar with the genre may be disturbed by the graphic imagery of deformed corpses in a post apocalyptic wasteland, but most of us are all-too familiar with such images. Similarly, the lyrics are the same old shit about blood, guts, pestilence and death. This is the musical equivalent of a low budget, b-grade horror movie.
Just to be clear, Abnormity is not a terrible band. They just lack creativity and originality. If you want to make your ears bleed with some caustic, dissonant, nasty fucking metal, then this album delivers. If you want to hear something refreshingly original, look elsewhere. Two stars out of five.
